For reals, I love the idea of being organized. But alas, it desn’t seem to be destined for me.
I mean wouldn’t a perfectly planned week, a calendar that keeps everything straight and lists that get checked off instead of transferred from one day to the next be amazing? A system where nothing gets forgotten, double-booked, or suddenly remembered at the very last moment
In theory, this sounds absolutely wonderful!
But real life is a different story all together.
I’ve tried them all, paper planners, digital calendars, handwritten lists, color coding, reminders, and probably several other systems I’ve already forgotten. Each one works beautifully for a second, or until life gets busy, plans change, or more than likely I simply stop looking at it or forget all about it.
And most recently, (like the few days) there has a a hell of a lot to keep straight!
Personal emails, business emails. Blog posts. Social media posts. Online Classes and 3 certifications tests. Various appointments. Weekend travel plans. Household chores and pilates schedule that apparently reveal itself only when the stars align properly.
The biggest challenge isn’t knowing what needs to be done. It’s creating a system that helps me remember and keep the times straight without becoming one more thing that demands constant attention.
What I do know is that I need something simple enough to keep using when life gets stupid and busy—not a system that only works when everything is calm and running perfectly.
Maybe it means using a paper planner for the big picture, my phone for appointments and reminders, and a short running list or post it notes for whatever needs my attention next. It may not wind up being beautifully organized, but it may help keep things from slipping through the cracks, that will certainly feel like some sort of progress.
Quite honestly, at this point, I’m not aiming for perfect. I’m just aiming for a little less chaos and maybe knowing which way is up.
Do you have any systems that have actually worked? If you do please share, I’m getting desperate here.
